Correctional officers, sometimes called jailers or prison guards, are prison staff who supervise the activities of inmates inside the prison and may transport prisoners between prison and court. While some positions require only a high school diploma, employment in federal prisons requires either a bachelor’s degree or prior military or law enforcement experience.
